Ascetic Self-Regulation

Abstract

The psychological concept of self-regulation has a central role in psychology. In Gestalt psychology, two types are described: organismic and Shudistic self-regulation. The topic of this paper is a description of a new hypothesis for the existence of a higher type of self-regulation - ascetic, which takes place at the spiritual level of human existence. The ascetic feat from the Christian hesychastic school is used as a model. This opens up a new perspective that can be practically applied in modern psychology and psychotherapy.
